Termination of the group or of the work of one member in the group poses special difficulties to both members and leaders. How do you say goodbye? Do you allow for a mourning process or find ways to avoid the range of emotions that accompany ending the group? We will discuss resistances to termination, the group therapist’s counter-transference around loss, death and departures and how to effectively manage these issues. Demonstration groups will help us explore these issues experientially.
