RRC-CAMFT January Monthly Meeting

The Surreal World of Surviving in a Pandemic:

It’s impact on our clients, ourselves

and how to provide care and sanity for all.

Presented by Debi Jenkins Frankle, LMFT

From the Calabasas Counseling & Grief Center

Debi Jenkins Frankle, LMFT is an expert in the field of grief. Debi has been working with clients suffering from lifetimes of loss for over 25 years. She and husband, Mark Frankle LMFT, are the co-founders of the Calabasas Counseling and Grief Recovery Center. Debi is also the founder of Private Practice Grief Workshops and Trainings for Mental Health Professionals as well as the FB group for clinicians: Private Practice Grief. She is an adjunct professor at The Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University.

ABOUT THE TRAINING:

Pandemic related loss is multilayered with the agony of Anticipatory Grief and invalidation of

Disenfranchised Losses. This calls for a re-examination of how we define loss, recognize grief, deal with the inability to participate in traditional mourning rituals and support our clients while we are experiencing our own grief.

Certain key factors impact our grieving. We will be discussing how to take these into consideration when working with clients impacted by loss. Anticipatory grief and disenfranchised grieving experiences have complicated this process over the last year.

This workshop will also teach you to recognize the 7 areas of our clients’ lives that are impacted by grief: Cognitive, Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Social, Family, and Work.

We will also be differentiating between grief and trauma, and examining how traumatic loss can complicate grief.

Once you know how grief can specifically show up in your clients, you can begin to name and

normalize this experience for them. Come join us to help our clients and ourselves to regain our footing in this surreal world of pandemic loss.

This course is designed for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Equip clinicians with the knowledge to understand the grief, mourning, loss and trauma that

many have experienced, during this pandemic.

2. Provide clinicians with the symptoms and signs of grief in 7 areas of functioning: Cognitive,

Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Social, Family and Work.

3. Provide at least 3 resources to use with clients and ourselves to provide care for grieving and healing.
