About the Workshop

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is based on and dictated by the concepts of bonding and attachment. The foundations of EFT will be presented, discussed and experienced. This includes the subtle moment-to-moment interventions which facilitate a greater transformation of relational distress into secure bonds. The speaker will address the theory and evidence for this model, as well as clinical techniques and skills. Recent research, videos, role plays and hands on learning opportunities will also be presented.

Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should increase their ability to:

• Discuss research validating EFT for couples as an empirically supported treatment

• Identify couple distress and relationship repair based on theories of attachment and emotion

• Describe EFT’s three stages of relationship repair

• Develop skills to help partners recognize negative, escalating cycles of interaction, to engage with emotions and recognize and reprocess the emotional responses that maintain relational distress, and to create corrective emotional experience and bonding events

• Utilize and practice enactments

Target Audience

This workshop will be valuable to those who work with couples including social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapist, counselors, substance abuse professionals, pastoral counselors, interns, and students.
