Club 3000 Meeting

The 3000 Club will be meeting on the 3rd Monday of every month from noon until 1:30 at the Park Marina Center for Wellbeing, 353 Park Marina Circle, Redding, CA 96001. The 3000 club is a gathering of interns, trainees and students.  Each month a clinical member of our chapter will present a topic of interest based on their area of expertise.  Attendees have will have the opportunity for education, community, networking and mentorship.

Scott La Fein will speaking in May. He will be presenting on Children & Experiential Therapy.
        
Children’s primary mode of expression is behavior. As we adults learn to understand the language of behavior, we can enter into a deeper “dialogue” with the children we encounter. Experiential Therapy (i.e. Art, Play, Sand Tray, Drama/Role Play, Movement) establishes an environment for a deep, rich world of communicative, expressive connection. We underestimate children’s understanding of their own experiences because they do not have the verbal skills and language to articulate that understanding. But when we create a safe space in which we can engage children in experiential expression, their understanding and articulation is no less than astounding. In that arena, progress and healing are not only possible, they thrive.


Scott La Fein, LMFT, has designed and implemented Expressive and Experiential programs for children in a variety of settings since 1986. He has also worked in these modalities with children and youth in private practice, The Centre for Creative Therapy, since 1996. Trained in Art Therapy, Sand Tray, and Experiential Play Therapy Scott has had the very good fortune of being allowed to go down the rabbit hole and enter the profoundly expressive, mystical, magical world of children. But hold on to your hats for the goblins and gremlins are real, just as are the heroes and heroines.
