Our September meeting will be a presenting on Working With Transgender Clients, presented by Dani Mason, LMFT.

A Transgender Client: The Dos and Don’ts

Have you worked with a transgender client?  Do you feel competent that you would know what to do and how to be therapeutically helpful to that client?  Please join us for an informative presentation on working with transgender clients. In the Nov/Dec 2014 Therapist magazine, Jan Ogren, LMFT, phrased it as “the most misunderstood birth defect”.  Many painful things happen to transgender clients that lead them to have high rates of suicide, depression, anxiety and intense feelings of hopelessness.  This presentation will give specific do’s and don’ts when working with a transgender client.  There will be a special focus on working with children and how to assess for gender dysphoria disorder vs. gender queer vs. gender creative children as well as adults.  Many resources will be discussed during the presentation as well.

Dani Mason, LMFT, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, with a minor in Family Relations, at California State University, Chico.  She obtained her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University in Southern California.  She worked at Sierra Family Services for several years treating clients in recovery from drug and/or alcohol addictions.  She also worked at The Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center in Woodland, CA.  She has been in private practice since 2002 and specializes in the treatment of sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence and drug/alcohol recovery.  She is the proud mom of Irish triplets who are 9 years old and is raising a transgender son.
