Hero’s Journey

The Hero's Journey, or monomyth, crosses culture and time to describe and clarify the often arduous task of living one's life.  Putting it in a mythic structure, we can utilize a framework of metaphor to come to a deeper understanding of where we've been, where we are, and where we might be heading (not beheading!...hopefully).

Using this lens in the psychotherapeutic setting can be a useful, enriching template, enabling clients (and therapists) to gain clarity and work with personal issues in a symbolic/metaphorical approach with a goal of transformation and integration.

Scott La Fein

Scott La Fein is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in private practice in Redding, CA.  Scott has worked with diverse populations spanning the life spectrum over the past 30 years utilizing art, creative process and experiential approaches.  Embracing a Humanistic Existential approach, Scott incorporates a variety of modalities such as Integrative Psychology, Transformative Education, Nature-based & Wisdom Traditions and other concepts/philosophies/tools.  While attending to presenting issues, Scott’s main belief and focus is on the deepening and raising of consciousness as having a more over-arching impact, not only on the moment’s struggle, but as a way to enhance a person’s, or couple’s, or family’s capacity to live more effectively in an on-going manner.

Scott is the current president of the Redding Chapter of CAMFT.  He supervises MFT interns and is the Executive Director of Ascend Wilderness Experience (AWE), a wilderness program in Trinity County.
