STRANGULATION
Strangulation in domestic violence situations is very common and the incidence is on the rise. Most victims are women who are attacked by a male member of their own household. Most victims are strangled repeatedly and there are multiple possible consequences including delayed death and eventual murder by the assailant. Domestic violence crimes cross all socioeconomic lines. Victims sometimes reveal the extent of the attacks if specifically asked by an informed therapist, medical provider, clergy, or other counselor. Timely advice from a counselor who has up to date information regarding these injuries can save lives and aid victims in making informed life choices.

MICHAEL WALLACE...
has served as a Peace Officer in California since 1988 and for the past 8 years, has investigated Domestic Violence, Stalking, and Strangulation cases for the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office. Michael is passionate about working with survivors of Intimate Partner Violence and coordinates his efforts with advocates and prosecutors to provide services to victims and ensure offender accountability. Michael testifies as an expert witness in the Superior Court of California on Domestic Violence, Power & Control, Cycle of Violence, Why Victims Stay, and Non-Fatal Strangulation cases. He presents training to law enforcement, first responders, advocates, prosecutors, medical staff, and crisis line volunteers in these areas. Michael is on the National Advisory Team and faculty for the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention and serves on the Shasta County Strangulation Multidisciplinary Team.
