CHERI’ SWENSON EDWARDS

Cheri's work in the mental health field began at a young age, offering support and peer counseling in High School.   

At 18, Cheri’ began working with Developmental Disabled Adults, Children, and Infants.  She provided job training, independent living skills training, adult daily living skills training, and family support.  During this time she learned much about levels of and factors in communication, including learning from non-verbal clients.

At 22, Cheri' began working for Victor Treatment Centers, Inc. in Redding, working with Severely Emotionally Disturbed and traumatized children (ages 10-21) in residential settings. Cheri' was quickly introduced to the resiliency of children and found her passion.  Cheri' has facilitated many groups over the years focused on social skill building, Crime Scene Investigation, Mission Impossible, Def Poetry Jam, and co-facilitated the local community LGBTQ+ support group. Cheri also served at VTC as a Residential Counselor, Safety Officer, Residential Services Supervisor, Trainer, Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist, and Clinician.

For 3 years, Cheri' provided Educationally Related Mental Health Services in Shasta County, in the position of Clinician III, serving several local school districts, including Regional Programs (Elementary through High School) that served youth in Special Education programs, and their families).

She went on to earn her AA is Residential Care, her BA in Psychology (Magna Cum Laude) and her MA in Counseling Psychology (with Distinction).

Cheri' specializes in Client-Focused, Strength-Based Approaches, expressive arts, trauma-focused treatment, children & adolescents, and the LGBTQ+ population. 

Cheri' was also a Core Adjunct Professor at Redding's National University (teaching experience at both the Bachelor’s and Master's Level).

Cheri is a Certified Child Development Intervention Specialist, a Certified Cognitive Behavior Therapy Specialist, and a Certified Treatment Specialist for Diverse Populations. 

She is currently serving her 2nd year as President of the Redding Regional Chapter of the California Marriage & Family Therapists.
