The Ache for AWEthenticity

I am Scott La Fein, a 62 year old boy who “grew up” in the 60’s and 70’s. In 1986 I began working in Residential Treatment with teens and was introduced to Art Therapy by an angel. Art therapy was the marriage of two deep passions for me...art and people. Now, 36 years in this field; 27 in private practice; 7 years of groups at juvenile hall; 7 years of high school sexual abuse prevention programs; teaching hospital personnel, law enforcement, master’s students, undergrads, rape crisis center volunteers and sexual abuse prevention advocates, running art therapy groups for ALL KINDS of populations, mens’ groups, presenting at national art and play therapy conventions, supervising interns...it has been an AWESOME career and life!
Also founding Ascend Wilderness Experience (AWE) and guiding children and youth on 5-day backpack trips for fifteen years...that too has been outstanding! When I think of the countless people who have allowed me...ME!...to intimately walk with them into the deep and dark recesses of their scary wounds, fears, insecurities...and have allowed me to push and nudge and support and love them in standing in the uncertainty, face to face with THEIR beasts and demons, to bravely move towards transformation, I am just so touched, honored, grateful and amazed. They have taught me the truth of Transformation. What a gift that this profession exists within the hurly burly whirled of western civilization!

- Use of Experiential Interventions for therapeutic process
- The AEDP Triangle of Change as a map to progress toward Core Affect
- Understanding the neurological impact of Awe and Play
- Understand how we can create/elicit the experience of awe daily
This course is designed for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs.
