This month's presentation will be led by Mike Schultz with the Red Cross. Mike has been a trained volunteer with the American Red Cross since 1998.  Over the years I have worked a number of local floods and fires.  I have also been sent to New York to help with the 9/11 disaster and to Falls Church Virginia to the National Call Center for hurricane Katrina.  I have also been the local Disaster Mental Health Services worker for the Northeastern region of our chapter of the American Red Cross helping victims of single home fires and other local disasters.

He will share information on what it takes to be trained as a Disaster Mental Health Services volunteer for the American Red Cross, some of my experiences doing work with the Red Cross, as well as the rewards for this work.

Participants should learn: some key differences between psychological first aid and standard therapy, the two biggest problems in disaster operations that volunteers must deal with, four general structural categories of Red Cross operations, and some of the functions under Direct Services and Internal Support Services.
